This little camera belonged to a friend, Harvey Newman. Harvey was a customer of mine when I worked at Henrys. He always had a story and a joke. One day a person came in with a box of camera gear to be evaluated. The gear all seemed so familiar. One of the older pieces had the name Newman on it and my heart sank. Turns out Harvey had passed away and his son was clearing out his house. He said that his father had often talked a...

The Association of International Photographic Art Dealers held their annual fair last week end and I was lucky enough to get to go. I had high expectations of being surrounded by great photography. Image 130 of the top galleries and book dealers together under one roof! I'll be making future posts about the show because it simply is too vast to cover in one sitting. I have never attended such an inspiring event ever. The highl...

Today I was doing my volunteer shift at the Uptown Gallery in Waterloo. A young person came in, my guess would be early twenties. So I had to ask why they wanted this photo and how do you know about it given the event happened before you were born. Th...

The light had a darker mood, cold and gritty. We didn't intend to go to The Falls. We were in St Catherines doing research for a genealogy client and decided on a whim to check out The Falls. This is one of my favourite photographs by Susan. So what makes a photograph like this so good? The composition is perfect. It flows from the top down with the layers of tree lines, the barn as an anchor and the fence "s" curving down to the trees in the foreground. It flows back to the top just as easily. This gives the image stability. You can look up and down the picture and your eyes flow easily. The barn serves as an anch...

I spent a week on the Bruce Peninsula recently. Stayed at an old farm house north of Wiarton and west of Cape Croker. Check out this link for a map, http://mapq.st/1LcV0Pu. The "Bruce" is a wonderful place for photography with rocky shore lines and beautiful old farms. I am very excited about the pictures we made there and in upcoming posts will feature new images from the trip and talk about how they were made. For now here a...
